Apparently, the secret to valuing a company for M&A deals is the 52-week stock price high. This is what Harvard Business School found in their analysis. If this is true and the "rocket science" of M&A valuation is nothing more than time series dependant, it does lead to interesting conclusions. The upshot is that for business cycle-weary owners, the time to exit is now! Equity market highs on a 52-week basis are scattered around one year ago and the passage of each day will narrow the potential upside for the seller. With debt markets thawing and appetite for equities returning, deal financing also becomes less of a headache. We also take a look at each market and list the stocks that have the best upside to their 52-week highs and potential for M&A activity.
