Shares of some top coal companies were up at the close of trading:
Arch Coal rose $1.55 or 11.1 percent, to $15.53.
Consol Energy rose $2.01 or 7.1 percent, to $30.45.
Massey Energy rose $1.38 or 12.9 percent, to $12.10.
Peabody Energy rose $1.26 or 4.7 percent, to $28.29.
